A set of six drums producing a distinctive and beautiful sound. The Atumpan are the Ashanti’s talking drums, played as a pair (male and female), leant against a wooden stand and played by the master drummer with two hooked sticks. Except for the Apentema the drums are all played with sticks.

The Dance
Adowa is from the Ashanti region of Ghana, based around its capital city Kumasi. The dance and drumming are based on the movements of the antelope. It is performed at festivals, funerals and other social events.
